The Bewl Bridge Flyfishers’ Club Committee

Chairman David Little

Mobile / Text: 07802 312 887

David has fished at Bewl since it first opened. He liked the tranquillity of Bewl and surrounding area so much that he moved to Lamberhurst in the late 1980's and joined the BBFC committee soon afterwards. Although also an active golfer these days, you will still find him on the bank at the beginning of the season and out in the boats later in the year. David both organises and fishes for the club's 'B' team in the national major league events

Club Secretary / Newsletter Editor Phil Thompson

Phil has fished Bewl since 1986 though he didn't join the club until much later in the late 90's

He is a keen competition angler

Treasurer / Membership Secretary Alastair Garner

Mobile / Text: 07555 897 921

Alastair’s fishing adventures started as a 5 year old slowly catching small roach at Keston Ponds

Before moving on to places like Horton Kirby, Brooklands lakes and Old bury Hill catching bream, tench and then carp

His interest in fly fishing was sparked by him getting a Saturday Job with Taff Price fly-tying and later with Geoff Bucknall (Rod and Line tackle shop) and reading Trout Fisherman magazine and books by anglers like Bob Church

After practicing fly casting in his local park he started fly fishing at Hayes trout farm catching fit stockies who gave what he thought was an incredible fight on light fly tackle

He read about Bewl and his friends and he after much pestering of their parents were taken to Bewl not, long after it opened in the late 70's

As soon as he saw Bewl and its evening rise he was completely hooked and when he hooked his first trout there he really understood a hard fight

One memorable day from the early days he caught a 7.5lb rainbow from the dam wall. In those days they were very keen so they fished off the dam wall from 6am before going out in the boat. Their parents loved dropping us off at this time!

His love affair with Bewl has continued and around 8 years ago he moved down to live on its banks

He has been lucky enough to fly fish all over the world from catching Tiger Fish on the Zambezi, to trout and yellow fish in South Africa and Golden Dorado in Brazil

About 10 years ago he first started competition fishing in the AMFC and have been lucky enough to fish in amazing reservoirs like Bewl, Rutland, Grafham and Chew. The away matches are great fun travelling and staying with goods friend with a few beers and laughs along the way

He's now lucky enough to captain the Bewl A team and run both teams

His latest adventure has been Salmon fishing in Scotland which is just stunning

Website Designer & Editor Marc George

Mobile / Text: 07956 535 808

Compared to the other committee members Marc is a trout fishing novice. He took up flyfishing late in 2005, joined Bewl Bridge Flyfishers' Club in 2006 and became a committee member in 2007. He enjoys bank and boat fishing, especially the late evening rises during the summer

Fly-tying has also become a part of Marc's trout fishing pastime and creating new patterns that catch, never fails to get the adrenaline pumping

Competitions Secretary John Benford

Mobile / Text: 07858 362 936

Since John was ten, his mum took him out to the river Eden in Edenbridge, Kent where he caught small stickle-backs with some maggots and a makeshift rod made out of cane. He has wonderful memories of hot sunshine and lovely countryside views

John started fly fishing as soon as he became married! He saw the Bewl Angle magazine and decided to book a casting session. After an excellent lesson he was hooked! He started fishing the banks of Bewl and was amazed at the help other anglers gave him. After a few months of fishing he was persuaded to fish from a boat. He loved it and joined the annual Bewl boat competition. This was an amazing experience that taught him so much. To further improve his fishing skills John volunteered to join the Bewl team in the AMFC competitions. This friendly environment is so much fun and allowed him to make some wonderful friends

To give something back to this wonderful club, John have volunteered to help organise the Bewl Bank and Boat competitions, these are held every year at Bewl reservoir. If you have not fished in this, we thoroughly recommend having a go
