BBFC Boat Competition Sunday 4th June 2023

The Bewl Bridge Flyfishers' Club annual Boat Competition is nearly upon us and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Bewl has been fishing very well recently and 2,000 fish were just released last week

If you have not already signed up for the Boat competition on Sunday 4th June, here is your last chance

Please email John Benford by Friday 2nd June to register your interest. If you have changed your mind and can not make the event do also contact John ASAP

Timings for the day:

  • 08:15 - Register at the front of the Fishing Lodge with John. Pay £43 in the Fishing Lodge for your Fishing Ticket and Boat Hire (The competition will be to kill first 3 fish and then catch and release)
  • 09:00 - Boat pairings will be assigned as fairly as possible. One of the main aims of the day is for new anglers to learn from more experienced anglers. It's an excellent opportunity to socialise and improve your fishing
  • 10:00 - Fishing starts
  • 13:00 - Beach boat on the bank by the 'Nose' to have your own packed lunch. This will provide an opportunity to find out what flies and tactics are working
  • 14:00 - Fishing commences
  • 17:00 - Stop fishing and be back at the Jetty before 17:00
  • 17:15 - Weigh in at the front of the Fishing Lodge
  • 17:45 - Prizes and speeches. There are lots of prizes this year sponsored by Snowbee and Fulling Mill

Fishing is to international loch-style rules, unless specified below

Out of bounds will be as designated by Bewl Water for the day

  • Roly-poly is permitted
  • Leader rings are permitted
  • All line densities are permitted
  • Use of bung/tache is permitted
  • Control of the boat to be agreed between the boat pairing
  • No brown trout to be retained
  • Kill first 3 fish. You can use barbed hooks. Subsequent fish should be released and will be credited at 2lbs per fish
  • During Catch and Release stage please used barbless or de-barbed hooks
  • As a consequence, there will be no time bonus
  • Respect the space of other anglers at all times

International rules are:

  • Maximum hook length 16mm, total fly length 24mm
  • Only one rod to be made up
