Club Chairman
- Tel: 01892 783 412
Peter has been Chairman of the Club since February 1998 & was formerly Vice Chairman. He has been a season ticket holder at Bewl for more than 20 years following his move in 1983 from London to Wadhurst & the banks of beautiful Bewl. The freedom to fish for trout at Bewl has contributed substantially to his quality of life
Peter recently retired as a solicitor so he now has even more time to go fishing. Apart from the law & flyfishing & his family, Peter's interests, some would say his passions, include food & wine; from the buying or the finding of food for free in the countryside to the cooking & eating of it. Peter has been a keen wild mushroom gatherer from his early years; his appreciation of wine has developed over the years
Club Vice Chairman

Peter began flyfishing for trout in the 1960's at a time when the opportunity for excellent trout fishing expanded to many large reservoirs. His fishing has spanned a period of many developments in tackle, techniques, & in the sport itself. He started fishing with split cane rods & the then innovative fly patterns developed by Tom Ivens & has been fortunate to have had the assistance of many talented anglers in developing his skills & interests
Peter joined the Bewl Bridge Flyfishers' Club committee in the 1990's to assist in an application for central government funding to build a new fishing lodge at Bewl. He was later appointed as Club Vice Chairman. He strongly believes that the future of the sport depends upon encouraging others & sharing information. His other fishing interests include fishing for wild trout in the West of Ireland & in Shetland & the extensive literature of flyfishing
Club Secretary

David has fished at Bewl since it first opened. He liked the tranquillity of Bewl & surrounding area so much that he moved to Lamberhurst in the late 1980's & joined the BBFC committee soon afterwards. Although also an active golfer these days, you will still find him on the bank at the beginning of the season & out in the boats later in the year. David both organises & fishes for the club's 'B' team in the national major league events
Membership Secretary & Treasurer
- Tel: 01435 872 171
John moved to Mayfield in 1989 when a job in the City caused a move from Southampton, Where he had been fortunate in learning to flyfish on the Hampshire Avon so a move to 15 minutes away from Bewl Water was the best alternative. He joined the Club straight away & the committee a couple of years later. Eventually becoming Treasurer in 1994 & took on the Membership Secretary's job in 2003
John fishes Bewl about 2 to 3 times a week. He loves fishing the bank early & late season, but realises that if you want to catch more fish, loch styling from the boats is the way to do it
He is a keen competition angler & has fished exclusively for the Chingley Chompers, since they were first formed, in all the National Competitions. He fishes every year in the AMFC League matches as they are good fun & has reached the England loch style finals 3 times through the eliminators at Bewl
The nickname 'Sooty' arrived somehow from his West Yorkshire birthplace with perhaps a similarity to Harry Corbett's voice!
Bewl Angle Editor
- Tel: 01322 863 814
Ray has flyfished Bewl for twenty five years & still fishes it at least twice a week almost exclusively from a boat. His involvement with competition flyfishing on a national basis also gives him first hand information on the news & trends on other major reservoirs
As Editor of the Bewl Angle Ray encourages input & the club now has a flourishing 'Grapevine' of information & contributors. If you want to talk about anything fishy, need information or can impart some that is of interest or benefit to members, do not hesitate to contact him
Website Designer & Editor

Compared to the other committee members Marc is a trout fishing novice. He took up flyfishing late in 2005 & joined Bewl Bridge Flyfishers' Club in 2006. He enjoys bank & boat fishing, especially the late evening rises during the summer
Fly-tying has also become a part of Marc's trout fishing pastime & creating new patterns that catch never fails to get the adrenaline pumping

John's fishing experience at Bewl was having casting lessons with Ian Thompson, who taught him the basics & installed a passion to start fishing. After buying his first rod, spending many a weekend fishing Bramble Point, three months of persistance & talking to other anglers John finally caught his first trout. His skills improved in leaps & bounds when he joined the BBFC, where he particularly enjoys the social banter with other anglers & learning what flies & tactics to use
Over the last few years John's knowledge of flyfishing has improved immensly & he participates more in competition fishing. John started "Loch Style" fishing in the Pro-Am competition, organised by Jim Letham, he learnt so much that this encouraged him to volunteer & represent the BBFC 'B' Team in the AMFC league. These competitions have made him realise the importance of tying your own flies. John has only just begun to experiment in fly tying & he hopes to improve in the future

Andy has been flyfishing at Bewl since 1985 & started fishing for tiddlers when his Dad bought him his first rod on his 5th birthday. Since this early age he's been totally dedicated to fishing ... It has only cost him two marriages
Today he is spending his time match fishing, on the coarse scene, but continues to go trout fishing

A keen flyfisher in both fresh & salt water, Jim first fished Bewl about 12 years ago when he was introduced to "Loch Style" fishing by a club member. His first taste of fishing for trout however was as a boy in his native Kenya although these days Jim, like many of us, can be found on the bank early season & then out boat fishing as the fish move out to open water
Much like Dave Little he liked Bewl & the area so much he moved to Lamberhurst 4 years ago & now lives a couple of miles from the reservoir in Hook Green. Jim joined the committee in 2001 when he set up the club's original website
